Find Your Local Office of Emergency Management

Emergency management is the discipline of dealing with and avoiding risks, particularly those that have catastrophic consequences for communities, regions, or entire countries. It is the dynamic process of preparing for, mitigating, responding to and recovering from an emergency.

Find Your County

Health Department

Recovering from disaster is usually a gradual process. Your first concern after a disaster is your family’s health and safety. You need to consider possible safety issues and monitor family health and well-being.

Find Trainings

Each year, more and more people are gaining the skills necessary to prepare for and respond to disasters or emergencies through various training programs, classes or modules. Only by making certain we, as individuals, are prepared for a disaster, will we be able to ensure the safety of our families and assist our communities.

What is Zika?

Zika is a virus that spreads through the bite of certain types of mosquitoes. If infected while pregnant, a mother can pass Zika to her unborn child. Zika infection during pregnancy can cause birth defects and developmental delays. Zika virus can also be passed through sex and blood transfusions.

While it can cause fever, rash, joint pain, and red or pink eyes, about 80 percent of people with Zika do not have any symptoms. Currently, there is no vaccine or specific treatment for Zika. Your best protection is to avoid infection. Prevent mosquito breeding, protect yourself from mosquito bites, and practice safe sex.

Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA)

Safety should always be the highest priority. While the majority of bus operators are responsible and operate safely, there are some that fail to meet safety requirements – putting passengers at risk due to:

* Buses that are poorly maintained or lack required safety equipment – increasing the likelihood of breakdowns and crashes.

* Failure to comply with federal safety regulations – such as not using licensed and qualified commercial drivers, or not following Hours of Service rules that keep fatigue-impaired drivers off the road.

* Failure to hold proper registration, authorizing interstate commercial operations.

Wherever you’re going, make sure the bus company that’s bringing you there is safe. Check out the company’s safety record and always Look Before You Book!
